I was supposed to leave at 10 :30 am from a meeting point in the village of Brummana. Our road was to go up through Baabdaat, Dhour Choeiur, and then on the back way down to Zahle, and up to Damascus.
The taxi was late. It arrived at 11: 15 am. At 11: 20 am, the road from Dhour Choueir was bombed...
I am now leaving tomorrow, with a convoy protected by the Jordanian embassy. I have never been so scared to travel in my life.
As I write this, the Americans have started being evacuated, and the British warship has arrived. The Americans will take 320 people today , and a thousand tomorrow.
Meanwhile, Deir Al Ahmar has been hit- a town just below Bsharri, Dahyi has been annihilated, the Beqaa is being targeted, and the South is in ruins.
Whenever you think it couldn't possibly get worse, it does... I wonder what tomorrow will bring.

Goodluck and Bless you may you be safe, and may all our loved ones and civilians, any civilian whereever they are be safe,
be happy,

How many people told you not to go to Syria ?
You're not so samrt when you fail to heed good sound advise.
You could have been getting a much needed good night sleep by now.
You suffer because of you poor decisions and excuses as Lebanon does today
Here we go again. If Isreal is so bent on living in peace, why are they so bent on killing innocent civilians? I have been watching the middle east fiasco for thirty years and it seems like every time a jewish soldier is harmed Isreal lashes out at the arab general population. I suppose Isreal learned well from the nazies when they invaded the Balkins and Greece and used collective punishment against the average citizens. I am an American and I can tell you there is a grass roots feeling going on around here that people here are tired of Isreal brutializing the Palistinians and the Lebeanese people. Remember Isreal, if you loose the support of the American people you are done. I would suggest, if you really want peace, then stop murdering and maiming innocents.
I am an american as well, ad I can tel you that joe55 is 110% wrong - the grassroots feeling in the USA is throughly pro-israel. I was at the pro-Israel rally yesterday, 20,000+ who decided to go out - on a work day, in 105 degree farenheit heat - to support Israel. Dan Gillerman was awesome: "Some countries say our actions are diproportionate..." he said, "your DAMN RIGHT they are disproportionate..." and the crowd went wild. The ONLY support for the hezb skunks are a few elites in the media, whose anti-Israel agenda is an old story. Believe what you want re Joe55, but he simply wrong. Check out other English countries as well - Canada, Australia (but, admittedly not the UK) - where the official and grassroot support for Israel is huge. Deal with it - you are being defeated. Either surrender or suffer.
joe55, lol ?
This is coming from an American ?! Do you want me to remind you what the americas did in Afghanistan and Iraq after 9/11 ? Talk about collective punishment ...
A soldier joe, (incase you didnt know) is a PERSON. He is usually an 18-21 year old kid that instead of going to the university (like you) HAS to go and defend his country. Im sorry, but Im not impressed by the Hizbollah`s so called ethics of just targeting soldiers (and they dont target soldiers usually but civilians and you know it). Wasnt Pearl Harbour *just* soldiers ? I think that made you drop nukes on Japan ...
joe, in all the world there are only 15 million Jews as opposed to 250 million americans (at least) and about 1 Billion muslims. In our nation everyone counts and every person is like a brother. If someone, anyone, decides, without any provocation or reason to kidnap two people, soldiers or not, then we reserve the right to retaliate and WITH FULL FORCE.
HOWEVER, Israel NEVER intentionaly kills civilians.
How do I know ? You think Im just brainwashed by our media ?
Dude, Ive been there. Im an Israeli soldier myself and I know that everytime , every morning my commanders have told me: "First ask, then shoot in the air, then shoot for the legs and only if you feel you are in life danger aim to kill". So I do know. I know better then you and all the people that talk bs here.
Dream on little dreamer, get yourself outside of New York city and you may be VERY surprised that many Americans are fed up with the attitude that anything Isreal does is noble and in the name of self defense. Washington has turned a blind eye to Isreal's brutal actions for many many years and has allowed the political elite and the news media to create a total mess in the region. 'But the times they are a chang'in'. Think I'm mistaked? Watch the coming elections concerning border security, Iraq and of course Isreal.
lair joe ,you are an arab .
All arab idiots spell Israel ,Isreal.
MANY,MANY CHRISTIAN LEBANESE ARE STANDING WITH Israel and telling them to destroy Hezbollah.
Too many lebanese citizens have stood by hezbollah and now pay the price.
It's part of their sycophant behavior.
Like most you are silent when Jews are being butchered by your brothers.
You only crawl out from under your rock when Israel is teaching your cousins and brothers the cost of making war on Israel.
Will a few of you awaken to the warmonger jihad ways that lead you to hell ?
Well said you zionist pig. I think your words reflect your contry's true colors. Only problem is israel couldn't punch its way out of a paper bag without the backing of the U S. I agree with joe55
So anon 11:oo:34
That means you moslems in america will make war against us because we stand with Israel against moslems on jihad ?
There is a large pig hiding deep underground in Hermel.
Why is this large pig of allah hiding in a hole and not fighting with his boys of jihad ?
Is this pig leader a coward at heart ?
Other rockets have hit Tiberius in the past hour, along with Safed again and many other locations. This comes after a relatively quiet morning as Israeli jets apparently scaled back their bombing raids in the Beirut area to allow several nations to carry out sea evacuations of their nationals. However the air force continues to operate in the northeast area of Hermel near the Syrian border where Israeli security officials reportedly believe Hizbullah leader Sheik Hassan Nasrallah may have escaped to on Saturday night, along with other militia leaders including the man thought to have been behind the horrific US Marine barracks attack in Beirut in October 1983 that left 241 American marines dead—the worst ever terror assault on US military personnel. I was in Lebanon when that took place, and the memories will never leave me. The radical Shiite militia leaders are said to be hiding there in a deep underground bunker.
Meanwhile signs are growing that a limited army ground operation into southern Lebanon may be imminent
Why the hell should Israel minimize Lebanese civilian casualties when Hezbollah is a part of the Lebanese government and Hezbollah's entire reason for being is to cause as many civilian casualties in Israel as possible? Carpet bombing was adopted in World War II for a reason. It works. Beirut should be a deserted, burnt-out shell by now.
Godspeed and I hope all goes well with your move to safety.
One persons' input, arising from conversations with family and friends: sympathy for the palestinians is evaporating rapidly. My opinion is that the momentum here is the US is just opposite that which Joe55 sites.
For the record, joe55 couldn't be more wrong.
I live in the midwestern part of the United States - Michigan to be exact - and the population here seems to be 100% behind Israel. Of course everyone wants the violence to end, but we realize that Israel has to protect itself.
Clearly 'Lebanon' is a divided country in which various regional factions control their areas rather than the central government. Or perhaps the witless Robert slept through the Lebanese civil war?
Whilst I cannot say Israel is not justified in attacking Hezbollah because if the Lebanese state cannot control Hezbollah, Lebanese polity can hardly complain if Israel then does what they cannot... but likewise Israel needs to make it clear that it is at war with Hezbollah, not 'Lebanon', and every bomb that lands on a target which is not a Hezbollah target is not just a tragedy, it is a mistake.
Thanks joe55 @10:43
"Watch the coming elections concerning border security, Iraq and of course Isreal".
I hope you post often. We Republicans can use your help this fall to convince all the left-leaning Jewish vote here in the states as to who are their real friends. Thanks again and keep up the good work.
I suggest that people like joe55 and some of the Lebanese people will WAKE UP AND SMELL THE COFFEE!!
I feel sorry for all the innocent civilians getting hurt BUT let us not forget that the reason for this attacks by the Israeli army (or should I say DEFENSE)is that the Hezbollah is prepared to sacrifice Lebanon for the sake of their own personal goals. That's why they are surrounding themselves with civilians, so they could blame the Israelis for killing the people.
I'm sorry, but if someone will break into your home and hurt your children would you just sit and do nothing? NO!! Israel has every write to defend itself and REACT on Hezbollah's attacks. Israeli army is the only army in the world to worn the civilians before attacking, and again, only because the Hezbollah put them in this situation to begin with.
write = right
worn = warn
I pray that Lebanon will rise up and work with Israel to get rid of Hizbollah. Then both countries can live in peace.
This is all the fault of Hizbollah, Iran and Syria. Lebanese and Israeli parents who love their children are tired of conflict.
Who would have ever thought that WWII1 would have began in the newly rebuilt peaceful Paris jewel of the Med ?
I have no doubt that the Islamofascist sleepers in America and elsewhere prepare now to strike.
Their Luciferic pride will not allow them to digest this decisive defeat at the hand of Israel and so they must strike out.
Thats their nature.
None of these lies and crap about a merciful and compassionate allah,
this is the devil who leads them.
Thats all they know is death destruction killing and war ,this cult of death and Party of Satan.
Keep your powder dry, America .
TEHRAN (Reuters) - Iran's Hizbollah, which claims links to the Lebanese group of the same name, said on Tuesday it stood ready to attack Israeli and U.S. interests worldwide.
"We have 2,000 volunteers who have registered since last year," said Iranian Hizbollah's spokesman Mojtaba Bigdeli, speaking by telephone from the central seminary city of Qom.
"They have been trained and they can become fully armed. We are ready to dispatch them to every corner of the world to jeopardise Israel and America's interests. We are only waiting for the Supreme Leader's green light to take action. If America wants to ignite World War Three ... we welcome it," he said.
Iranian religious organisations have made great public show of recruiting volunteers for "martyrdom-seeking operations" in recent years, usually threatening U.S. interests in case of any attack against the Islamic Republic's nuclear programme.
Israel continue !
America is behind you !
This reply is to Joe55. Needless to say - STOP BELIEVING THOSE CNN WEBSITE POLLS - They are just BS and only useful for Nancy Pelosi to use as an "un-name reliable source" on American mood. For others reading this bog that are not in the America, we are a nation of 300 million, therefore, there are at least 400 million opinions in the palestinian/israeli problems.
The only opinion that really count is the opinion of President Bush and in my view - his opinion as been expressed accurately, full and in words that even al Assad could not misunderstand.
Just for the record, I concur with his view and suggest that the Lebanese citizens that desire peace and freedom . . . fight for it - cause freedom is not free.
P.S. joe55, tell your poli-sci prof that he is wasting your parents hard earmed money.
Lebanese_Lady,
I hate to tell you but the pattern of Israeli bombing presages a ground assault. They are currently seeking to sever physical and information communications which will leave the Hez trapped in a pocket and unable to move or coordinate.
Godspeed.
Robert is a disgusting excuse for a human being. If he is a fellow American, I am truly ashamed that I have to share citizenship with him.
Both countries need peace but I am another American who DOES NOT agree with Israel's actions. Please do not speak for us, other anons...not everyone in the US is gung-ho Israel, I promise you.
"Little dreamer" here, Joe55. I'm not from New York (no wonder you've so misunderstood the USA). I am not a jew, nor a christan, but I AM a zionist.
check this website:
http://www.fromisraeltolebanon.org/
I can only hope that Israel waits till robert is in Lebanon so he can see the other side of this,
An interesting editorial in today's Boston Herald that pretty much mirrors the position I am seeing many taking here in the US.
The Israelis are indeed targeting the Beqaa Valley. My fathers village got hit (Aytha-Fakur), my mothers village got hit (Sultan Yacoub), and my stepmom’s village got hit (Majdal Anjar)
I don't know if this is true but it sounds bad:
The IDF has found that Hizbullah is preventing civilians from leaving villages in southern Lebanon. Roadblocks have been set up outside some of the villages to prevent residents from leaving, while in other villages Hizbullah is preventing UN representatives from entering, who are trying to help residents leave. In two villages, exchanges of fire between residents and Hizbullah have broken out.
So it looks like Hezbollah might be trying to maximize civilian casualties for propaganda reasons.
Of course they are trying to mazimize civilian casualties! Why do you think they launch their missles from residential areas? They are laying lebanon out for slaughter to further their twisted cause.
Maybe it's a good thing your taxi was late. You could've been in huge danger if it had gotten there on time and you'd been on the road when that happened.
In America there is widespread support for Israel. In the LA area at a rally for Israel there were many Iranian Muslims there supporting Israel and showing their disgust for Iran's current gov't and their proxy army, Hizbollah. For they have seen with their own eyes the brutality of Iran.
Now that the propaganda tool and lie that the Palestinians and Hizbollah have been attacking Israel b/c of "occupation", the blinds have been lifted from the Americans' eyes.
So tell us OMAR @12:58, how do you feel about Anon@1:27's comments?
Why have we not heard from Useless Nations about the atrocities of Hizbullah?
Rather than an international or UN peacekeeping force, there should probably be an armed international evacuation force sent in to get those people out of what basically amounts to the captivity of Hezbollah. The Lebanese Army apparently won't escort those UN workers through the Hezbollah checkpoints, so maybe it is time for someone else to do the job that the Lebanese army should be doing and secure the safety of those people so they can exit the combat area.
I am simply appalled at the complete lack of regard the Lebanese army apparently has for the citizens of their own country. I can not understand how a general in such an army could stand to look himself in the mirror. There apparently still is not a real Lebanese nation yet.
unfortunately israel are bombing distinctly non-hezbollah targets. their self-described policy is to attack to "civilian infrastructure" of lebanon as a form of punishment for lebanon not keeping hezbollah under control. the bit where things fall down is this: lebanon have nowhere near the resources to control hezbollah, who in turn cannot control all of their people anyway (not that i'm saying that hezbollah's incursion was necessarily not a top-down thing).
this scenario makes collective punishment not just inhumane but downright ridiculous.
as for u.s.a. support there is a growing minority waking up to the fact that israel is abusing its position of trust, and overstepping the mark. outside of america there is plenty of scepticism, all around the world, of israel's behaviour. especially now. america currently has the political capital and the will to keep israel safe but one of these facts could easily change.
while you have the power in this situation, israel, negotiate. it was winston churchill who said that appeasement from a position of weakness is terrible, but appeasement from a position of strength is noble and the only thing that can bring peace.
share jerusalem properly with the arabs. it is a holy land. help the palestinians get water and be more tolerant. the withdrawal from gaza was cynical, the abuse of the palestinian people continued afterwards. but make real progress and real compromises and you will eventually be safe and this scenario can end. it has not been going on forever. it's been going on for just a few decades and in the scheme of things this all might one day be seen as teething troubles. please start to value the lives of your neighbours.
it was with a heavy heart that i was watching the whole episode with bush on an accidentaly recording microphone ... howcome this texan farmer, that we all hold to be a village idiot, could have said something that everybody knows here and not to receive a standing ovation ?? i bet all lebanon knows its not about international military force ... its not about sending this kondi here ... its exactly as this texas monkey said - kofi please call damascus and tell them to get nasrallah stop doing his shit and the whole thing is over !!!
but having read the comments i got simply fucking enraged ...
people of the middle east , u make me dispair of your being that stupid .. i am fucking tired of seeing israelis playing everywhere this anti semitic card ... there was no reason to establish a jewish state if that means the jews would be just as stupid as everybody else ...
muslims .. i am just fucking wondering why muhammad could nt command u to not be so idiot ...even if salalahu forgot about it your sheikhs could have improvised something long time ago ...going down on your knees and facing this mekka saying - i am fucking not an idiot ... being muslim has nothing to do with lobothomy surgeries ... i am not going to mess with this beast called Israel Defence Forces ...
our problem as i see it now is not our special fundamentalism or religion ... it is that we are just all ashholes here ... we should have been waiting for this embarassing episode with bush for somebody to said its so clear and in just one sentence while munching his breakfast ..
lebanon .. stupid lebanese monkeys ... I ,and i am israeli... I am going to teach u a lesson in being a patriot of your country ... repeat after me :
Israel and Olmert !!! Fuck off of my country !!!
syria/iran !!! Fuck off of my country !!!
hezbollah and nasrallah !!! Fuck off of my country !!!
Fuck off !!! Fuck off !!!
lee - hezbollah doesnt exist in those villages. Those are sunni villages...in fact, Aytha is mainly christian. So this rumor that Hezbollah isnt letting about of thier homes is irrelevent in the 3 villages that I posted. Those villages got bombed because Aytha has a road that leads to Syria, Sultan Yacoub has some palistianins, and Majdal Anjar is right on the border... not because of this IDF rumor
"Some countries say our actions are diproportionate..." he said, "your DAMN RIGHT they are disproportionate..." and the crowd went wild.
It's astonishing, the American support for this violence against innocent citizens. (By no means all, Americans, i know...) Utterly depressing.
You should condemn Hizbollah's outrageous attacks; they are horrendous. You should also condemn Israel's targetting of civilians and state infrastructure. "Collateral damage" or not, the IDF know they're killing civilians. To pretend otherwise is absurd.
The gamble that the Lebanese will suffer so much they'll rise up against Hizbollah is a deeply cynical, deeply immoral calculation.
It is also irresponsibly risky. For a start, the bombs may only strengthen Hizbollah's hand; so far that's all they've done. And if the Lebanon becomes a failed state again, it's a disaster for Israel. This is all murderous stupidity.
moderators .. plaese erase my previous post
Speaking from the USA -- Indiana: I see no sign of a swell of opinion against Israel. If anything, since the attacks on New York, Madrid, and London, folks here are less and less sympathetic to militant Islamists, who complain loudly abount wrongs they have suffered but do not blink at killing innocent civilians with airplanes, bombs, or missles. I remember seeing video of those folks dancing with joy when thousands were murdered on 9/11.
Bush has not withdrawn US troops from Iraq, even though less than 50% of US citizens support the war there. Why would he lift a finger to stop Israelis from destroying Hezbollah? (Mark G)
Hopefully now they are done bombing that road. I heard it was slick with oil from cars after that and there were a lot of accidents. If it's impassable then hopefully they won't bomb that road again. My family is on that line.
Be glad the cab was late! It takes around 20 minutes to get from Brummana to Dhour Shweir, and another 20 puts you where they bombed...you are safer staying put and praying like the rest of us.
Re anonymous 2:51: some other time I would confont you about calling my President a monkey; and I try no to be obscene. Still, I think I agree with your point. Shame to delete it. (Mark G)
Omar 3:14
I accept your description. In this case it is indeed very regretable.
Why did you allow a terrorist organization to become part of your government and effectively control a segment of your country?
Anonymous in Indianna @3:36
"I remember seeing video of those folks dancing with joy when thousands were murdered on 9/11."
As a matter of fact Hezbollah condemend 9/11 bombing.
Dalal
"As a matter of fact Hezbollah condemend 9/11 bombing."
In a press release, maybe. But that didn't seem to stop the dancing in the streets.
"unfortunately israel are bombing distinctly non-hezbollah target"
Do you know how ridiculous that statement is? Would you have me believe that the Israelis have spent a billion dollers, used up all those weapons and put their own pilots and other troops at risk to blow up daycare centers? Are you an idiot?
Dalal -- To be fair, I think the 'dancers' I was recalling were in Gaza. My point though is that folks here don't see a big difference between the 9/11 attackers and the Hezbollah missle-launchers. From this distance it looks like one big mob all chanting "Death to [Jews/US/Bush/Israel]!" and always blowing up civilians somewhere, as Hizbollah is doing even today with its missles. (Mark G)
for all of you hypocrites crying about lebanese civilians being targeted by the IAF.
WHAT THE HELL DO YOU THINK YOUR HEZBOLLAH and HAMAS HAVE BEEN DOING TO ISRAEL FOR MANY,MANY YEARS ?
Those Jews murdered by your great heros of jihad were INNOCENT CIVILIANS with no reason to be murdered ,AND NOW YOU CRY FOR YOUR CIVILIANS TOO LATE.
Hezbollah targets Israeli cities all over and you ignore this to your peril.
Wake up and smell the retribution.
Now you get a taste of what Israel has been dealing with when the moslem homocide bombers blow up innocent civilians for being Jewish and hezbollah and hamas fire their missles directly into civilian homes.
German Judge Detlev Mehlis, who was appointed by the UN to head the investigation into the assassination of former Lebanese premier Rafik Hariri, is convinced that Iran and Syria are responsible for aggravating the situation in Lebanon.
Despite redeploying most of its forces from Lebanon, Syria is still determined to maintian control over its neighbor country, believes Mehlis, an expert on the dynamics and power politics of the region. This became apparent during the investigation into Hariri’s murder, Mehlis said, when undercover Syrian agents interfered with the investigation.
“The Syrian Justice Ministry interfered and frightened witnesses,” he revealed.
According to Mehlis, Syria’s attitude towards Lebanon has not changed in the slightest since it was forced to withdraw its forces under international pressure.
LP you wondered what tomorrow might bring.
Not sure but nasrallah is crazy enough !
Arab press sources close to the Hizbullah say that residents of Tel Aviv will be given one hour to flee before the terrorist group launches a barrage of missiles at the city.
The unnamed sources are quoted by the Palestinian Authority-based news agency Ma'an as saying:
"The Lebanese resistance is preparing a retaliation parallel to Israel's military actions. Hassan Nasrallah will address the people of Tel Aviv and warn them to evacuate the city within one hour. As soon as the delay ends, hundreds of heavy missiles will start landing in the city, which has been divided into squares in order to let damage reach every inch of the city. An estimated 500 missiles are expected to land in Tel Aviv in a short period of time."
The Arab sources further said that the Hizbullah has been very careful in cultivating its public image, in order to increase the surprise effect of the planned barrage on Tel Aviv.
The war, from the perspective of Nasrallah, has not yet begun, the sources said, adding that other "surprises" planned by the Hizbullah include more kidnappings of Israeli soldiers from along the Lebanese border.
Also claiming to have "surprises" in store for Israel is the Gaza-based Islamic Jihad.
It is sad to see how heartless some people can be. If you are proud to be who you are, if you are proud of your language of hatred, do not hide behind your "anonymous" name. Alicia, from AZ.
dear lebanese lady,
peace be with you tomorrow and in the next time. i will send positive energy out for your safety. my thoughts are with you.
Another non Jewish American here who fully backs the IDF.
as a lebanese christian living in canada, i can say this with great pride, may israel destroy hizbollah for the sole reason that they do not serve lebanese interest but iranian interest. however it is becoming so crystal clear that ierael plans on destroying not just hizbollah but the whole of lebanon, this situation makes it obvious that lebanon has two barbaric enemies, hezbollah and to a greater extend israel, so i hope to god that both crumble and burn to hell...having fought with the lebanese forces in the 80 i am aware of the israeli disgust and hatred towards anything arabic...how they pushed us to battle the palestinians and then turned on us and try to destroy us is something engraved in my heart forever.......people seem to forget that muslims and jews are cousins by religion and hence they share the same " an eye for an eye...motto..which is always why they will be in war....furthermore americas uncompromised and unconditional support of israel will be its wrong doing that will destroy the good ol u.s.a......americans are too dumb to see that they dont even control their own land and government...15 millions jews control over 250 million dumb rednecks....so in conclusion i hope that israel destroys hizbullah and then iran destroys israel and then the u.s.a. destroys iran but not before irans gets tyo launch a couple of nuclear nukes towards the largest jewish state of all, new york city and i will be watching all thsi from my hometown in lebanon close to mount hermon where jesus walked and is gonna save the ones that accepted and embrassed his message....ps lebanon will be one more time destroyed but its ok because it wont be the first time, but as history has shown us, it will be rebuild once again to its greatness and will be standing strong when israel iran and america are long gone!!
Concerning Israeli targets, it isn't much but it's all I have:
Maj.-Gen. Eisenkot said the IDF has hit over 1,000 targets, 180 of them Katyusha and rocket storage sites and 350 launch sites. Over 250 missile strikes were carried out with the aim of blocking traffic arteries, and 200 buildings used by Hizbullah were hit. According to Eisenkot, Israel’s offensive would continue without time limitations.
...
At the briefing, IAF Commander Brig. Gen. Amir Eshel presented footage of an army aircraft scoring a direct hit on a truck laden with rockets, and noted that the truck was disguised as a civilian vehicle in order not to be identified.
Also, some targets might not appear to be immediately Hezbollah related but are force protection related such as the elimination of the coastal radars that apparently can be used by Hezbollah anti-ship weapons. I am not in any way vouching for the accuracy of the above information, I am simply reporting the only actual figures I have seen so far and they appear plausible. The earlier comment about Israel spending a billion dollars appears to also be in line with what has been reported in the media. Again, no idea of how accurate that number is.
Iran appears to be frantic. They have issued statements that have been wildly contradictory in tone. That might be due to the intended audience of these statements. They have said the UN proposal on nuclear operations is "an acceptable platform on which to build" whatever that means. They have also issued a veiled threat to the US that they have thousands of terrorists who are ready to begin a campaign of hirabah against the US at a moment's notice. Then they issued a third statement about some kind of "major surprise" that will happen "very soon". No explaination was offered as to what that surprise might be. But anyway, Iran's comments seem to be all over the place and it might be that various ministers are starting to panic now that things are going so badly for Hezbollah in Lebanon and Iran in world political circles.
Thank you for having such an open blog, and letting views in from all sides.
I'm writing from Australia, have recently visited Israel, Syria and Jordan, and consider myself extremely tolerant of both sides.
I think its a pity Hamas was never given a chance to become a responsible government, but it could not convince it's critics it deserved the opportunity.
It is also a pity that Israel immediately brands critics 'anti-semitic'. Perhaps Israel would have more REAL support (rather than just paid political supporters) if it listened to and paid attention to constructive criticism.
Israel's response to Hezbollah's kidnapping is truely disproportional....there is no way any moderate person can justify why a whole country's infrastructure and civilian population should come under fire for a minority group's actions. Was the Lebanese Government given a chance to take action against hezbollah? I can't recall.
I can't think of anything nice to say about Hezbollah.
There are more moderates and small 'l' liberals amongst everyone out there, everywhere....it is your individual responsibility to make sure rational, tolerant people form your government. Otherwise the extremeists will speak for you, whether you like it or not.
Thanks.

"Iran appears to be frantic. They have issued statements that have been wildly contradictory in tone"
The nature of the beast ,pathological liars ,how do you nrgotiate with pathological liars whose peace is defined as jihad until the kuffar submit to Islam ?
anon19:34:22
I think its a pity Hamas was never given a chance to become a responsible government."
Give them enough time to fulfill their charter to destroy Israel ,you moron ?
Is it disproportinal when a hamas ,fatah, Islamic jihad suicide bomber walks into a resturant and blows up women and children who are eating lunch and their only weapon is a plastic fork ?
How about a hezbollah missile falling on a house in tiberian where a grandmother and her grandchild are killed as they are taking a nap ?
Is this disproportional force ?
What is in the water there in Australia ?
"I think its a pity Hamas was never given a chance to become a responsible government, but it could not convince it's critics it deserved the opportunity."
No, the problem is they refused to take the opportunity. Nobody had to give them anything. They had it on the table before them. They simply refused to pick the opportunity up. Why does everyone always insist on leaving the terrorists blameless? Hamas refused to renounce terrorism and renounce its previously stated agenda for the destruction of Israel. All they needed to do was present a policy of peaceful coexistance and stop shooting rockets.
They were given every opportunity. They simply refused to take it. Times are different now. Hamas couldn't play the victim role anymore. They were the elected government. They were held responsible and they failed their people.
lucy from Oz here...
I thought their funding was cut off. How can you set up a government with no funding?
Modern republican france was founded by revolutionaries....who would today be described as terrorists.
And wasn't Hamas about to present a document recognising the state of Israel?
15 millions jews control over 250 million dumb rednecks...
Thanks info, asshole.
God help you! inshalla you will get out of this alive! I hope every innocent Lebanese survives! This is wrong, but Israel wont stop until the US tells them to.
I hope you find a way out, and a safe route out. I hope your family is safe, and every one you know is safe.
Not sure what this means, but Fox News in the US is reporting Israeli sources telling them that Israel has completely run through the list of all targets they had identified over the past six years. All targets from here on out will be from recently developed intelligence or re-strikes on previously damaged but not destroyed targets.
They also aired what appeared to be targeting system video from IAF planes showing rocket launches and subsequent strikes on the launchers. You could clearly see several rockets being launched from the location and then a bomb arriving on the target.
I remember seeing video of those folks dancing with joy when thousands were murdered on 9/11.
And the Marine barracks bombing back in the 80s.
And the Americans taken hostage and held for years.
If you want to know why there is no groundswell of American opinion against Israel, there it is- most Americans decided Hizbullah were the bad guys years ago.
When someone goes after bad guys, you don't get in their way.
no problem chief, hey greg admit that i am right
Omar - I'm from Ayta Fikhar too
and I was completely shocked.
I am desperate trying to get more family out but with the taree' masnaa cut off how?
