A school in Tyre filled with refugees was bombed. The number of casualities is not specified.
The plastic factory in Tyre, the paper factory in Ouzai, and a soap factory have all be destroyed.
Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah spoke on al Manar TV. He directed his remarks to the Lebanese people, the Israelis, and the Arabs. He did not even mention Prime Minister Saniora's speech.
Hezbollah is acting without any cooperation with the government. The government is failing to provide for the refugees. They did not open the schools until yesterday for the refugees.
NGOs in Beirut met at Zico House and had a passionate meeting. I was not there for the consequences.
The roads to Syria are continually bombed.
Sectarianism in Beirut is practically non-existent and the people are incredibly angry at Israel. In the Christian areas, sectarianism is on the rise. The Christians in the mountains overlooking Beirut are more frightened than people in Beirut. The reverberations of the explosions are much more powerful up the mountain than in Beirut. They do not have buildings blocking the frightening noise.
According to a friend who works for ANB TV in Rabieh (a wealthy Christian suburb that overlooks Beirut), members of the Lebanese Forces were going to raise an Israeli flag, but were stopped by the gendarme. Christians and Sunni in the North are talking about internal clashes.
Beirutis are fully supportive of the government and the Prime Minister. Many, too, now support Hezbollah.
In his speech, Nasrallah noted that the majority of Hezbollah's targets are military, while Israel's targets are civilian. Nasrallah claims his strategy will change to meet the Israeli aggression. He notes that Hezbollah territory has been vanquished, so there is little to lose.
Lebanese are getting even more frightened.
However, the situation is surreal in Beirut. It's completely safe. People are out in the streets. Shops are open, but they're closing early.
Sorry for any problems in this post, but I am writing as quickly as possible between interviews and preparing to leave.

i don't know how u get ur info while u're stuck at home as u claim...
"According to a friend who works for ANB TV in Rabieh (a wealthy Christian suburb that overlooks Beirut), members of the Lebanese Forces were going to raise an Israeli flag, but were stopped by the gendarme. Christians and Sunni in the North are talking about internal clashes."
actually what i heard is the complete opposite.
although walid jounblatt called to open the schools, they were left closed and whatever help was provided to the refugees was very symbolic.
also i heard that the refugees are only welcome in the christian areas and this with the help of the aounists.
as for the rabieh incidence. let me tell u that this is nothing else than a creation of someone's imagination. I would have known if something like that would happen next to my house..
call me imposter.
Im very sorry fro you people.
But Israel cant afford to get hit from lebanon's land, it is lebanon's land and responsibility.
Israel have casualities too.
Israel dosent attack civilian targets, it attacks Hizballah.
but thats what happends when you hide weapons with civilians.
I feel very sorry for you and hope there will be no more civilians killed.
all you want to do is live a quiet life and make money just like us, dont forget that.
everything has a price.
Good day.
(by the way...if you check the moment of attack it was before the G8...they were suppose to talk about Iran).
Hezbollah Rocket Barrage Killed 8 civilians in Haifa. Let us hope that Hezbollah gets eliminated once and for all. I fear that short term solutions are the worst kind of antedotes. How much pain and suffering would have been prevented if the world would have taken on all terrorist entities and supporters of terror years ago. Now the terrorists are stronger and much tougher to defeat. The longer we stall and make short term concessions to terrorists and supporters of terror who very soon will have the A- bomb...well...
I have no idea where you're getting your info from LP but I've heard the total opposite of what you're "reporting". Sectarianism is NOT on the rise in ANY section of Beirut or anywhere in Lebanon for that matter. They only thing I've heard in my numerous contacts with people living in ALL ares of LEBANON is that they're upset with HA for getting Lebanon into this quagmire. All are united along these lines.
Hope you get your facts straight and quit dessiminating lies that will cause sectarianism before you make other such posts.
It always seem that war brings out what is truly in the heart of men.
Christian's who stand with the satanic religion of Islam have made their last stand.
Those who trust in the words of a persian puppet and pathological liar must have failed to see his Katusha targets at the beginning of Iran's offensive against Israel via Lebanon.
Whatevere happens ,just remember, you Lebanese were used is cannon fodder in a much greater war which Nasrallah spoke about.
You left out the most important part of his speech LP ??????
Why is that ?
Are you still in denial as to what is really going on ?
For the blind ,deaf and dumb ,it's about Islam destroying Israel.
In the 90's I used to hear about this "most compassionate, most merciful allah".
I don't hear that much anymore ?
May his folllowers have learned it's all a lie and this allah demands much blood.
Well the blood is flowing now thanks to Sheikh Nasrallah's stupid miscalculation and this most unmerciful and without compassion satan is very happy.
The doomed fools will follow satan and his apostle from hell ,Pride will not allow them to awaken from the deadly path they have chosen .
Divine Justice states that what they intend for Israel will fall upon their own heads.
I love it ,this divine justice ,it takes man out of the equation.
There is NO LONGER ANY MIDDLE GROUND.
The war has brought out to the forefront where your heart truly is.
Blame Israel or blame the arrogant boastful agents of hell who opened the door to destruction upon a seduced by the derpent Lebanon.
Hopefully you make it to Cyprus safely.
There most surely will be no safety in Syria.
be safe my friend....thank you much for the updates
all the best,
and I really hope that the news about sectarianism and clashed are not true.
LP
I do not understand "According to a friend who works for ANB TV in Rabieh (a wealthy Christian suburb that overlooks Beirut), members of the Lebanese Forces were going to raise an Israeli flag, but were stopped by the gendarme."
When you have an opportunity, please elaborate.
The reverse is true: Hezbollah rockets civilian targets only, without warning. Israel attempts to target Hizballah positions.
there isn't much time for you guys to get a clue and start informing on Hizballah or getting the hell out of the way.
You have two choices:
1. Cooperate with Israel and look forward to real sovereignty and peace
2. Join Hizballah in some stupid deranged "resistance" and watch Lebanon turn into a parking lot, permanently.
Sorry to be so direct but you guys need to understand the reality of what is going on here. I can't believe how much confusion and lack of clarity the Lebanese have.
LP,
What information do you gleen by watching al Manar TV? Do you get "information" from any other media sources????
Hezbollah is acting without any cooperation with the government
Ummm....and nobody expects them to start now.
Zico House and had a passionate meeting. I was not there for the consequences.
The mind reels...LP be sure to keep a level ahead. ok?
The roads to Syria are continually bombed
Yes, I warned you while you were packing your bags for Syria and pleaded with you to stay put and now, as you say, "Beirut is completely safe"...for now.
Please try to help your friends remain calm and resolute. Don't forget again what you're fighting for.
Sounds like some members of your army were starting to show some sense, but were stopped by your "gendarms."
Pity.
Even Condi Rice -- clearly acting under orders from the President -- is rejecting the notion of a premature ceasefire.
Lebanon has a chance -- if it rejects the Hizzbuzzards, and not just with words, but with deeds.
But the time's running out. It would be a mistake to count on Mubarak keeping the IDF from laying siege to Beirut.
Ok dude, now I get it ...
You are faking being somekind of Lebanese modern liberal yet your words are hiding Hizbollha retorics.
1. You quote Nasrallah saying Israel is bombing civilians while Hizbollah is bombing mostly army targets .... Thats bullshit and you know it.
2. " It's completely safe. People are out in the streets. Shops are open" -- I thought Israel was bombing all civilians ... (lol ?)
3. "preparing to leave" -- man, I could pack five houses in the time it takes you to pack . (maybe thats "PRETENDing to leave" ?
pfff... youre becoming pathetic
LP, IAF officer confirms that several Hezbollah bunker hideouts are hidden under civilian parking lots. Just great! Eh?!
L.P
How sure are you about the Lebanese forces story?
Oh and frankly I wonder if all the people commenting from israel are as ignorant as joel is or if he is the exception. I mean it is obvious he has no idea what he is talking about but are the rest as ignorant?
And Joel please, before flaming me at least try to find out what is the thing that revealed your complete ignorance about the situation.

"members of the Lebanese Forces were going to raise an Israeli flag, but were stopped by the gendarme."
This one proved to me that I'm completely clueless in internal Lebanese politics. Is it true? Are you sure?
Hello!
I am also writing from Israel, and my family lives in Haifa.
I have seen the Iranian religion leader "Hamiani" speaking today on TV.
He told the Lebanese people and his belivers that Hizballah stops Israel from "doing whatever it wants in Lebanon".
I think it is pretty clear for the Lebanese people that Israel has no interest in Lebanon's land, and has no intention to
deal with Lebanon "anyway it wants". We have withdrwan our forces 6 years ago and have fulfilled all UN decisions.
Regarding the supposed words of Nassralla about Israel bombing civilians, while Hizballah bombs military targets.
Israel is the one army in the world that makes ALL efforts NOT to harm civilians.
If you are surprised by what I just said, go study military tactics and the use of force of Russia (in Chechnia), US (in several countries), China, France, England, african countries, and many other countries in an endless list of war crimes against humanity during battle.
It is unfortunate for Lebanon to host Nassralllah, Hizballah, Syria, and Iran in its territories, but you have to understand: you had 6 years to take control over your country, to prevent it from becoming a terrorist homeland (once again...), and you haven't done so. If I am not mistaken, only lately we have heard of some resistance against the syrians.
I know Nassrallah is a muslim, and so are the rest of Hizballah, Syria, and Iran. But that would not prevent these muslims from ruining your country of behalf of their interests. They are driving you to distruction, now - or in time when they have enough power to nuke Israel. You will be hit anyway.
I pray this war to end, I pray that no civilian from both sides will be hit. And I also pray for the end of this terrible hate that muslims have for Israel.
All in all this is the bottom line in this long war between muslims and Israel: we do not want your land, we are here to stay, if you have decided to come to Israel, fight us, kill us, and "throw us to the ocean", this will bring your end as well.
Let us all stop this madness, get back to our families, lovers, and our day to day responsibilities.
It is time for Lebanese people to say NO to Nassrallah, Assad, and Iran.
Lebanon is YOUR land, and there's nothing more we want than a quiet border with you.
Sincerely,
Eyal
In Haifa, a Scene of Death and Destruction
If someone claims to speak for the Lebanese, or as a Lebanese, what does it mean?
Lebanon is no longer a country. Lebanon is merely a civilian shield behind which stateless murderers hide.
Lebanese are people without a country. They tried to live in a serpent's den and sound surprised when people come to exterminate the serpents. Cause and effect, logic.
Jacques, your statement about the Lebanese being a people without a country is quite harsh and inaccurate. The bottom line is that above all else, the Lebanese and Israelis are people, and right now, a lot of people are suffering. Please show a little compassion for those suffering on both sides of the border.
I just started reading your blog this morning. I really hope this all ends as soon as possible, and you, your family, friends, and the lebanese people make it out safely and strong than they were before. Our hearts are all with you and were are praying for your wellbeing.
F~from kuwait.
The land mourns and languishes; Lebanon is confounded and withers away; Sharon is like a desert, and Bashan and Carmel shake off their leaves. (Isaiah 33:9 ESV)
It is not as clear at the moment what this is specifically referring to. Sharon is a region in Israel, the seacoast area south of Haifa and north of Tel Aviv, where the majority of Israelis live. Bashan is an area roughly equivalent to the Golan Heights, and Carmel is Mount Carmel, adjacent to Haifa. It appears that some unpleasant things are occurring in Lebanon as well as in the coastal population center of Israel. Lebanon is the home of the Shiite Muslim terrrorist group Hezbollah, poised to attack Israel with 10,000 missiles, some reportedly with chemical or biological capability. I hesitate to suggest this may mean that the Israeli population centers along the coast, along with the Golan Heights, will be hit very hard with missile attacks from Hezbollah and Syria. This would result in extremely severe retaliation against Lebanon and Syria.
"Now will I arise," says the LORD. "Now will I be exalted; now will I be lifted up." (Isaiah 33:10 NIV)
The verses prior to verse 10 describe events that will happen just prior to this announcement, and will indeed incite it. What happens when God arises? His enemies are scattered. But this seems to portend a momentous occasion, a historical event, when God abandons the appearance of not being directly engaged with the affairs of Israel. Rather, He rises up, determined to bring glory to His name by the mighty actions He takes on Israel's behalf. Could this signify a new chapter in history, an era when God's powerful redemptive acts for Israel once again become obvious to all?
"You conceive chaff, you give birth to straw; your breath is a fire that consumes you. The peoples will be burned as if to lime; like cut thornbushes they will be set ablaze." (Isaiah 33:11-12 NIV)
We are not told the exact identity of the "you" in these verses; presumably it is the "destroyer" mentioned in verse 1. "You conceive chaff, you give birth to straw" - this an analogy from the baby conception and delivery process. But it is no baby born here; these are both trash materials, both highly combustible.. The Geneva Study Bible says for verse 11: "This is spoken against the enemies, who thought all was their own, but he shows that their enterprise will be in vain, and that the fire which they had kindled for others would consume them."
And how will they be consumed? By their own breath. They will be burned "as if to lime". Do you know what a lime burn is? It's a chemical burn. Could this be talking about chemical weapons, weapons that the enemy attempts to use on Israel but fall back on themselves? The word for "breath" also means wind, gas, or blast. Could it be that these enemies that will be burned by chemical fire will be consumed by their own weapons of mass destruction that are blown back on themselves?
Matthew Henry wrote about these verses: "You shall conceive chaff, and bring forth stubble, which is not only worthless and good for nothing, but combustible and proper fuel for the fire, which it cannot escape, when your own breath as fire shall devour you, that is, the breath of God's wrath, provoked against you by the breath of your sins--your malignant breath, the threatenings and slaughter you breathe out against the people of God, this shall devour you, and your blasphemous breath against God and his name. God would make their own tongues to fall upon them, and their own breath to blow the fire that should consume them."
"You who are far away, hear what I have done; you who are near, acknowledge my power!" (Isaiah 33:13 NIV)
As a result of what has just happened, God demands that both those in Israel, and those beyond, must recognize what He has done for Israel. Perhaps this is why these verses are being spotlighted now, so that when it happens, no one will be ambivalent in their determination of who did it. The Lord's mighty hand and outstretched arm are still active for Israel! In response to the failed peace process, God has arisen and powerfully consumed the enemies of Israel.
"The sinners in Zion are terrified; trembling grips the godless: "Who of us can dwell with the consuming fire? Who of us can dwell with everlasting burning?" (Isaiah 33:14 NIV)
This verse is reminiscent of the accounts I've read about when the Holy Spirit of God moved in a powerful way in peoples hearts to invoke the fear of God, resulting in great revivals of repentance and rebirth. May God do this in Israel soon.

We are taking it up the arse for Hizbullah and Iran! Like 2 soldiers were worth a whole countries destruction. Gee thanks Nas, thanks for nothing, asswipe!
What will be known to future generations as the second battle of the Saudi-Persian wars or “Hurûb Al Râfidah wal Hanâbilah” has just started in Lebanon.
Being highly flexible cynics, the Israelis have chosen to help simultaneously the Râfidah in Baghdad and the Hanâbilah in Beirut, thus ensuring that this will be a long, protracted conflict.
Washington’s Neocons rejoice as tens of thousands of innocent Arab civilians die for Sheikh Bar-Dizbah Al Bukhari’s Torah-based sayings or Nahj Al Balâghah’s hash-induced suicidal trances, while Europe’s Pilates wash their hands with blood.
Truly, we live in tragic times.
Sheikh Abu Bahîm Ab Rûtii
I can tell you for a certainty that the targets Hizbollah have been hitting on this side of the border are not military in any shape or form. While there are military bases in the northern area 99 percent of the missiles and rockets have hit little farms, small villages, large villages, big towns. They've hit houses, they've hit shopping areas, they've hit the railyway platform that in another 15 minutes would have been full of civilians and not just the (civilian) railway workers that were killed. They've hit pedestrian streets, they've hit private gardens and public parks. They have not hit our military bases. They have full-on targeted civilians. They have military targets they could easily hit. They have targeted the civilians.
some people are just amazing...
wow...
like they aren't seeing the news.
or just watching israely news.
they don't see the women and children target in buses from israely airplanes.
they don't see the hospitals that are being bombed.
they don't see the schools that are being bombed.
they don't see the civilian facilities that are being bombed.
they don't see the ambulances that are being bombed.
the press.
and don't tell its collateral damage when an israely helicopter has a precise targetting computer that is so precise up to 1 meter. that they arent targetting civilians on purpose.
BS.
go watch european TVs instead of americans or british.
From the US, I'm sorry your country and people are going through this. I'm sorry the Israelis are going through this.
There are not many great reasons to die, but fighting and dying over religion, particularly somebody else's religion, has got to be one of the worst reasons there is.
It's obvious who started this whole thing up. Hizbuallah kidnapped the soldiers without prior provocation by Israel. It must suffer the results. And if the lebanese don't want to be attacked - stop sheltering this terrorist organisation. Also, what Nasrallah said in his speech is complete and utter bullshit. Hizbullah attack ISRAELI CITIES with 1,500 missles and not military facilities. However, Israel attacked mostly Hizbullah facilities, like Hizbullah-TV, Hizbullah HQ and other facilities that can be used to strengthen Hizbullah (like roads to syria, airports and seaports that can be used to transport arms).
Lastly, we, the israelis, do not crave war. We want peace, but peace can be achieved only when terror stops.
For the record (and because I'm nerve-strung out from almost no sleep in several days as I am sure you are also) when I posted above I picked one point, that Hizbollah is targeting almost solely civilian targets, but did not mention the fact that I am saddened, horrified, angered, feeling helpless that lebanese civilians are also being harmed and killed. that I am sick at heart. I go to a funeral tomorrow. There are funerals of innocent civilians in Lebanon as well. I am not religious at all but I have to believe, must believe, that there will be a better future. All of us in this region of the world have suffered too much and for too long. There has to be a better future for us all than what we have in the present.
God is great
Allah hu Akbar
Elohim Gadol
We all beleive in the same god, but for some reason muslims think that their god enjoys killing "infidels" -those who do not beleive in the Kuran.
Well, Jews and Christians did that too, OVER 300 YEARS AGO, NOT in the 21st century!
God help all muslims to change their Kuran.
amen
hello lebanonise , i really try to think why you let hizzballa control youre destination and lead you to this distruction ,if you really want to damege israel so you do well , if ou want to live so you do bad , israel will be dameges its true but you will not live , so,,, i ask my self , which man prefer to not live ???
I realy dont like Muslims.
I hope the good people of Lebanon get out of this trouple.
Who the fuck are those insane people blogging here? Islam haters and radical neo-cons who have no clue whats going on.
Hizballah did start the conflict. True. By attacking SOLDIERS. And the damn jews destroy a whole country and kill innocent civilians.
We can see who the real terrorists are. Just because the U.S (speak redneck, ignorant bush followers) support Israel doesn't mean everybody in this brainless MTV generation has to. Whats wrong with you people!!!
I'm glad at least that the Jew-haters like above were able to crawl out from under their rocks...Drop dead you useless, insane, liberal turd.
just check this out:

Eyal said: "Regarding the supposed words of Nassralla about Israel bombing civilians, while Hizballah bombs military targets.
Israel is the one army in the world that makes ALL efforts NOT to harm civilians." Here's the proof: Israel has made 2,000 sorties in Lebanon so far, and 80 civilians have died. Many of these sorties are over densely populated areas (whose inhabitants have helpfully been told by Israel to leave, since Hizb Allah was using them as human shields). Many have not left, yet Israel's strikes are so surgical that there has been, relatively speaking, inconceivably low collateral damage. In the first weeks of the U.S. campaign in Afghanistan, by comparison, it is estimated that 3,767 civilians were killed in U.S. airstrikes, and recall that these strikes were made mostly in unpopulated areas. That gives some context for evaluating the excruciating lengths to which Israel is going to minimize civilian deaths.
Eyal, would it matter than until noon today the number of lebanese civilians dead is about 190 (check any updated news) for about 11 Lebanese Military and 3 Hizbollah
Versus 12 military and 12 civilian for israel, it would seem hizbollah -the terrorist- is much more accurate in targetting military than the IDF ( at least till a few hours ago ) !!!!
Or does math work in a different way on your side of the border?
How about this incident, first day israel bombs bridges and road, says it is "prevent hezbollah" from smuggling the two israelis out of the south (check any israely news source). Fine and dandy.
Second day Israel drops leaflets on the south, leave the area cause we will bomb it heavily, to protect the civilians as you say (Check any israeli sources about the leafelets)
People leave their houses and head for the roads! But the bridges and destroyed and the roands are blocked (cf previous day's action) people are stuck on the roads trying to cross by foot instead of by cars, the raids and shelling start as promised about 30 dies on the road unable flee anywhere.
The survivers went back to their homes, a few more died in the shelling.
Did the IDF forget they had bombed the bridge specifically to prevent people from leaving the south? Did they forget they had dropped leafelets? Did they think it was hizballah fleeing the area in masses?
Now the people who went back are starting to run out of food...
At least you dropped the leaflets right?
And then we get Hizbollah bragging about how they went out of their way to warn the people of Hayfa 24 hours in advance of bombing the city. You can ask kael how dleighted she way Nasrallah went out of his way on tv to warn her that he was going to bomb her the next day he even told her he was doing it because IDF killed Lebanese civilians and they must be stopped for doing that without consequence, I am sure she was delighted to know he too, just like the IDF, can rationalize his actions before bombing innocents
Hezbollah targets the military?
They are launching dozens of missiles into civilian neighborhoods.
A school was blown up?
I don't think so, my friend.
You are being lied to and should know better.
